The Spider and the Fly

The elegant eloquent

eight-legged creature

So focused on his gossamer task

Ignores my stare.

His hairy black legs

Dancing on silver wires

Weave the proud pattern

Of his history.

His prey dives in flippant

Extravagance

The pestering drone of

Its wings laughing,

Swooping, teasing

For just the tiny moment

Between our innocence

And death.
