A Gift

You sit there crying

the hot tears climbing down

the soft wrinkles of your cheek.

You sit in agony

unable to move

a fire-burnt knife jabbing your bones.

You sit in anxious anticipation

watching the tedium

of the clock’s forever minute.

At last you lie down in thanksgiving

the tiny white round solace

a gift.
