Hope alone is a bird without wings
a runner without legs
a nebulous, mythical prayer.
This calm intelligent man
with his wide smile
and sparkling eyes
gives hope wings to span the globe
gives hope legs to speed the peace
gives hope energy and strength.
An ordinary man with an extra-ordinary truth
a boy raised by his grandmother
a man educated by trial
An unselfish man who chose
public service over wealth,
family over fame,
who now hears the anguished cry
of a country without a hero
and gives himself in sacrifice.
