It was 6:02 a.m.
when my eyes just popped open,
grabbed a housecoat, slippers, and camera,
dashed into the street
of my Central Illinois home
just in time to catch the moon
half covered in Earth’s umbra
in the western sky.
God’s magnificent display
this pre-Easter day.
Holy Saturday when our Lord
lies wrapped in His shroud
while the wars rage on,
while terror, hatred, and strife never end,
while we light candles for the
147 killed in Kenya.
We watch,
we all watch,
we watch with a single eye
for tomorrow He rises from the tomb
to free us all of sin
and out of the light of
His forgiveness
will grow our love.
